MOON MOUNTAIN VINEYARD, REPRIS WINES
The Moon Mountain District Winegrowers Association is a nonprofit trade association committed to representing and promoting grape growers and wine-related businesses within the Moon Mountain District AVA.
Formed in the 1990s and officially recognized as an AVA in 2013, the group is comprised of wineries, winemakers, vineyards, and wine-related organizations based or with operations in the AVA or making wines with AVA fruit. The MMDWA was responsible for research and submittal of the application to become a AVA.
Although it is among Sonoma County’s newer formal viticultural designations, the Moon Mountain District AVA contains some of the county’s oldest and most prestigious vineyards. MMDWA’s leadership board and its membership include some of the most experienced and respected viticulturists in the industry.

The AVA
ESTATE VINEYARD, KAMEN ESTATE WINES
The Moon Mountain District is a horizontal swath of mountainous terrain totaling 17,633 acres, with 2,000 acres dedicated to vineyard production. The area resides within the larger Sonoma Valley AVA, which is within the vast North Coast AVA.
Located on the Sonoma County side of the Mayacamas Mountains, the AVA descends from the tallest ridge peaks at an elevation of 2,200 feet, down the mountain slopes to an elevation of roughly 400 feet. The District’s western boundary rises above the towns of Kenwood and Glen Ellen and continues southeastward just above the city of Sonoma and reaches toward Carneros.
The earliest vineyard plantings were heroically undertaken in the 1890s, while the official federal designation as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) was granted in 2013.

Varieties
MOON MOUNTAIN VINEYARD, REPRIS WINES
Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel are the most widely planted red varietals, with Chardonnay being the most planted white variety.
The AVA also produces Syrah as well as the desirable Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Hanzell is heralded for their Pinot Noir.
